Welcome

Private Guiding and Instruction

"Say Russ...do you do any guiding or instruction?" Since I get asked this just about more often than anything else, I am now offering instruction by appointment only. Depending on your needs and desires this could be anything from a "get up the Nose" basic aid overview to an advanced course in nailing, hooking or heading. You tell me where you want to go, and I'll design a course around your goals. It would be silly to try and teach a guy who wants to do the South Face of the Column as a lifes goal how to stack pins. Likewise to the climber who has done several El Cap trade routes, showing him how to set up a basic haul would be a waste of time... he wants to know the sneaky stuff.

All instruction will take place with hands on gear setting and real world situations. Sample courses are outlined below, but each course is built around you, the client. Before taking any of these courses, you must be well versed in the basics of moving on rock and have the ability to set nuts, cams, and have a good idea of what it is you want to achieve. I will not be catering to "mud hounds" or really bad Zion rock enthusiasts, so leave the warthogs and mud axes at home.

The costs of each course will vary depending on the actual course of study. The price is the same for one or two people, so bring your partner to share in the cost. If you have three or more people you can request a second guide for an additional $100.00 per day, or just a diluted me for $50.00 more than the regular rate. The standard rate is typically $225.00 per day. For your $$$ all the necessary gear will be provided except for your personal items such as your harness, wall boots, gloves etc. Also included in your standard rate is lunch at the crags, and beer when you are done. Some locations feature onsite camping right at the climbs. When this is the case, some camp amenities will also be provided. The best time for these classes is in the Fall or even the Winter due to the south facing nature of some of the crags. I will do the classes anytime, but in the summer be prepared for some real heat, and there is no rebate if you wilt. To arrange a date for your instruction or to ask specific questions about getting signed up, send me an Email.
